Alexandria's Angel Wings
A traveling tribute shared across Alexandria each October
Mary’s Angel Wings were painted by Mary Edwards, a breast cancer warrior and founding member of the Walk to Bust Cancer Committee. Today, reproduced sets of her artwork travel through Alexandria as a place for remembrance, support, and action.
A Moving Tribute
Mary Edwards was one of the founding members of the Walk to Bust Cancer Committee. She and her family painted the original Angel Wings in 2016 and they enjoyed featuring them at the Walk for several years before her passing in January 2022. The original Angel Wings continue to make an annual appearance at the Walk to Bust Cancer.
Since then, Mary’s Wings have become a symbol of strength, resilience, and grace. They are featured in the Walk logo, printed on Walk T-shirts, and carried through the community each October.
As the wings make their way through Old Town, Del Ray, and other Alexandria neighborhoods, they offer a place to remember those we have lost, stand with those in care, and honor the families, friends, caregivers, and neighbors who continue this work.
Host The Wings
Local businesses, fitness studios, shops, workplaces, schools, and community groups can request the Angel Wings for October events.
They work well for fundraising classes, shopping give-back events, workplace wellness events, community photo moments, and awareness events that support access to breast cancer care.
Requests are not automatically confirmed. Our team reviews each request based on date, location, timing, transportation needs, and availability.
